As a person who loves Cat in the Hat and knows almost the whole script from memory, I do have to say that it is very inappropriate.
Some mothers have restricted their kids from watching Cat in the Hat because of all the sexual references.
I think that Cat in the Hat is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.  Unfortunately, it should not be classified as a children's movie.
Some of the inappropriate references in the movie:

  • The Cat's hat growing when he sees a picture of Conrad and Sally's mom.
  • The Cat also references how babies are made, "When a mommy cat and a daddy love each other very much, they decide to..."
  • "You pay this woman to sit on babies, that's disgusting! I'd do it for nothing."
  • In a later scene, the Cat picks up a gardening hoe and says, "Dirty hoe!  I'm sorry baby, I love You." then he licks the hoe.
  • Another is during the couch mechanic scene. The cat shows his butt and then continues to beat an animal.
  • The movie also shows the moms boyfriend, Lawrence, drinking beer.
  • Another very inappropriate scene is when the ride Mrs. Kwan down the stairs. Then they string her up and pretend that she is a doll.

These are just a few.  The whole movie is filled with shameless promotion, sexual references, and scenes that are far too inappropriate for children.
Some reviews online have stated that, "It's filled with double entendres and potty humor..."

For someone who is over 13, might find that the movie is very funny.  For a parent who is trying to watch this movie with their young children, they might think that it is extremely inappropriate.  If I was a parent, I don't think I personally would let my child watch Cat in the Hat until they were fully able to understand the true meaning of all of the references.
Maybe the movie should have been rated PG-13.  The actual rating of the movie is just PG.

All of this information above is probably very shocking for anyone who hasn't yet seen the movie, or for someone who wants to see it but doesn't the real truth.

The Cat in the Hat is NOT a children's movie whatsoever!

The Cat in the Hat is a bad influence on a child.

This movie is a serious issue.  It should not have a rating that allowed little children to be able to watch it.  If it were up to me, I would definitely change the movies rating to possible even rated-R.  Although the movies intended audience is meant to be young children, it is too inappropriate for anyone under at least 13 to watch.  You could almost compare it to the recent movie, Sausage party.  Sausage Party is rated R and it has a lot of bad references and swear words just like the Cat in the Hat.  I wouldn’t let anyone under 13-18 watch sausage party or the Cat in the Hat without their parents permission.

Rational:

The publication that might be interested in the tabloid would be any publisher than it interested in knowing more about children’s movies.  My intended audience would be any mom or babysitter that is wondering if the Cat in the Hat is appropriate or not the show their children. This is also be influential to any girl or boy who wants to watch a funny movie and is allowed to watch the Cat in the Hat.  Anyone from 13 to any age parent that is looking for this particular question.  I used pictures that show the dirty and inappropriate images.  I wanted to prove that even though the Cat in the Hat was meant to be a children’s movie it is clearly too inappropriate.
